The best method is with the United States Post Office via the special book rate called "Media Mail". Media mail boxes can be from 1 to 70 lbs each. It is recommended that you keep boxes under 40 lbs. The Post Office will thank you, and the boxes will not be so heavy that they sustain damage during shipping.

Do books need to be in a certain condition to be acceptable?

We accept books of all conditions, provided that they are 100% functional and intact. We accept former library books, and books that are marked, highlighted, worn, bent, and otherwise used - as long as all of the text is readable. We do not accept advanced reading copies, or other books marked "Not for resale".

Does your system take all the "good" books away from our walk-in customers?

No. Typically, the amount of "hits" with the scanner will end up being a very small percentage of your whole inventory. Additionally, we tend to take books that have a very specific audience. This means that the popular best sellers are often not in our want list, while a very specific title that may have a harder time finding a buyer at a public sale, may be more valuable to us.

What kinds of books are typically ones that sell well through bookrecycler.org?

There are no hard and fast rules. There are a couple of general rules. Books that are more recently published (in the last 15 years or so) are more likely to be in our database and will have a buyer waiting. Also, non-fiction is more popular in our database than fiction. However, you never know until you scan in the bar code and see what the scanner says.

What if a book does not have a bar code? Can I still check it with the scanner?

Yes. If a book does not have a bar code, you can type in the ISBN using the scanner's keypad. However, if a book does not have an ISBN, it cannot be checked. All titles in the bookrecycler.org system use an ISBN.

Is there a trial period or a cancellation policy?

Begin whenever you wish and cancel whenever you wish.

How and when do I know how much Book Recycler pays for a book that I scan in?

When you scan a book in, the scanner will tell you if it is one of the 500,000 titles in our want list. If it is, the scanner tells you exactly how much you'll receive if that book is sent to Book Recycler.

How much does the scanner cost?

The scanner is not for sale and does not cost anything. However, because it is an expesive peice of equipment, we do collect security deposing before sending the scanner out. The deposit is fully refundable upon return receipt of the scanner.
